Christian Formation (Education)

Rebecca Circle

On 10:00 a.m. at the church, the first Thursday of every month, all women of LCOS and your friends and neighbors are invited to study the bible.

Sunday School

9:00am - 10:15am.

Our Theme is: My word: the Bible for Everyone.

We will be studying the bible for everyone for age's Pre-K to Adult classes. We encourage all to have a bible.

Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.  Please show me now Your ways, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the Law, but that which comes through faith in Christ.  Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.  Give me life, O Lord, according to Your Word, and I will declare Your greatness.  Amen (TLSB)

Adult Sunday School Offerings:

This will be a study of, and in Social Media! You won't want to miss this three session intergenerational study on January 30, February 6, and February 13. These sessions will be led by our own Marty Vik. Adults and youth alike will take a look at how social media works in today's society. Technology, cell phones, texting, tweeting and face-book all impact our lives in some fashion. Plans call for a lot of interaction and discussion between youth and adults. As a Christian how are we responsible for their use in today's society. This study will meet Sunday in the Sanctuary at 9:00 am on the dates listed above.

Christian Ministry in Illness and Death:  As Pastor Ruppar wraps up his presentation on this important topic on Sunday, March 6, I hope many in the congregation have attended these sessions to learn of this important ministry experience in special times.

Biblical Archaeology 101:  Beginning Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 9 AM in the Sanctuary and continuing for six weeks through Sunday, April 17, 2011, LCOS’ own Susan Ham will lead participants on the exciting excursion of a Biblical “dig”.  Susan’s background and degrees are in archaeology and she spent two years in Egypt on a dig.  During that time, Susan got to work with the Dead Sea Scrolls and will talk about her experience with them.  She will also explain how a dig is undertaken and why it is laid out the way it is and how every piece found on the site is accounted for and recorded.  You won’t want to miss this informative study!

Women of the New Testament:  Beginning May 1, 2011 and continuing through Sunday, May 29, 2011, Jennifer McNeel will facilitate this informative study.  Jennifer is an LCOS member and working on her PhD at Union Theological Seminary in Richmond.

Other Adult Offerings:
Tuesday Morning Book Study:  Beginning Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the church we will embark on a study of Philip Yancey’s book The Purpose of Grace.  This study is open to all and if there is enough interest we will offer an evening study.  See Glen to sign-up and get further details.

Thursday Night Bible Study, meeting the second and fourth Thursday evening of the month beginning at 7 PM.  We meet in the church’s administrative wing.  Currently we are studying the Book of Matthew.  This study is open to all members and the community feel free to come and invite a friend.

Power In the Spirit (PITS):
Mark your calendars now for this Virginia Synod event which has grown over the years to become the biggest Lutheran event in Virginia.  This year’s theme is We Love To Tell The Story.  PITS is held at Roanoke College in Salem, VA.  Dates for this year’s event are July 14-16, 2011.  Look for information on bulletin board #5 and the Virginia Synod website.
