LCOS on the Go. Jim & Linda Burnish and myself took a weekend last month to visit Morningstar Lutheran Church for their Homecoming service. Pastor Rick officiated. As usual, Pr. Rick conducted an inspired service as well as singing a solo. His choir training was evident. There were about 45 in attendance which made for a well occupied church there. Afterward, pot lunch was served in the adjoining fellowship hall. An array of home grown vegetables and eggs awaited our pleasure there. We felt quite welcome. Jim suggested that we do this again next year.

On Sunday, August 30, the LCOS Dining Out group gathered at the Chesterfield Airport restaurant after church for a buffet luncheon. There were approximately 25 attendees. Breakfast foods were available for a brunch along with fried chicken and BBQ pork. A salad bar started the meal and a desert bar ended it. A Crepe Chef was available for freshly made crepes. The day was topped off with entertainment by two young ladies that played their guitars and serenaded us. Definitely worth a repeat performance.

Next dining out is planned for the 5th Sunday of November. We hope to gather at Crab Louies for that one..

Amazing Grace Café - Aug 09

Lutheran Church of Our Saviour was blessed with joyous, toe tapin' music, during the Free Concert on August 1st. We first blessed with Brian and Sammys' Open Mike performanace as they dazzeled us when they switched instraments, and each sang for us while they played. We were then blessed with Kerensa Grays performance, and her journey with Christ. The evening was then polished off with the sounds of Exit 9.

Thanks to all those who attended, and to God for sharing his word and talents through our performers, and in each and everyone of us.

Wouldn't it be great to do this again in 2010! Click here to see the images of the 2008 concert.

Vacation Bible School - July 09

With 24 children, 8 adult volunteers, and 7 teen volunteers, a great time was had by all in Discovery Canyon! We learned to praise, pray, and ask questions about God. We also learned to seek Jesus in our own lives and tell others about Jesus whenever we can. We learned all this through the Bible storytelling, crafts, games, and music stations with the grade school children, while the preschool had their own crafts, games, and storytelling.

Thank you to all the children and volunteers! We can’t wait for 2010!

The Youth Work Camp got a great send off on July 5th. This was my first visit to the Youth Work Camp. I met up with Marty's crew, and the youth where finishing up with their devotions. It was so refreshing to hear teenagers express their understanding of the bible and their views on various topics, especially about their thoughts on one of the Ten Commandments (love thy Neighbor, as thyself). What I also enjoyed was watching them work, and wondered how they new how to do the ceiling. They shared with me that they had learned during their years of participating with Work Camp. They actually taught me a new game too while I was their (I still don't understand it, but had fun any ways). I witnessed the joy their shared in giving, it was a true blessing for me (Debbie Bissett) today.

Dining Out Group, May 09

"The Dining Out Group" met at Famous Dave's Barbeque, Midlothian Turnpike, on Sunday the 31st of May 2009. We all enjoyed a variety of mouth watering dishes off of the menu. Many even ventured to the dessert menu for that perfect ending to the meal. All 30 of us who attended would like to thank our waitresses and host for the outstanding service we received.

Fellowship Visit To Quantico, May 09

Fellowship's trip to the National Museum of the Marine Corps at Quantico was on the 30th of May 2009. Our tour started in Leatherneck Gallery where the core values of the Marine Corps - honor, courage, and commitment - echo from the marble walls. We then followed in the footsteps of Marines: from the yellow footprints that young recruits must fill at boot camp to the boot prints left in the sand of Pacific Island beaches during World War II, in the snow of the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War, and on Hill 881 South in Vietnam. It was humbling to hear the story and to be in the presence of the first flag raised on Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima. We all agreed that we need to make another trip back to the museum.

The LCOS Men's Group met Saturday, May 30th. The LCOS Men's group enjoyed a big pancake breakfast, scrambled eggs, and sausage. The breakfast was also attended by LCOS women too, who are always welcomed. After breakfast, Chaplain Jack Dixon treated us to the updated information regarding the expansion that is occuring at Fort Lee. Jack also gave the LCOS IT Team high praise for keeping the information up-to-date on the our website. We enjoyed the food and fellowship, and a Birthday too.

Our next breakfast meeting is August 29th. The speaker will be Herb Peterson. His topic will be the VaLMM Disaster Relief Trailer. LCOS donated $1000 from the 2008 Bazaar proceeds toward the purchase of the trailer.

The Dining Out Club met Sunday, March 29, the Dining Out group enjoyed another dining out experience at Bailey's Pub & Grill. There were opportunities to play pool, shuffleboard, darts, or just enjoy the food and fellowship. A couple of dozen of us chose to participate in this fifth Sunday of a month event.

We plan another fine experience on May 31. Perhaps you can join with us then too. Have a look at the pictures. Click on one and it will bring up a larger view.

The Great Chili Cook Off

In January, what could be better than some chili to warm you up. The competition was also hot. There were awards for the mildest, the spiciest, the most unusual and the best overall chili.

Even though there were four awards handed out, we all were winners. It was a great fun event where the fellowship was as warm as the chili.
